Fertility Counseling Center of Orlando FAQ Fertility Counseling FAQ Infertility Counseling Orlando Maitland Winter Park College Park Windermere Isleworth Bay Hill Dr PhillipsIs Counseling Right for Me?

Counseling is a very personal decision. As such, the only person who can answer that question is the individual themselves. There are a number of reasons why individuals come to counseling; infertility and high risk pregnancy are just a few. People frequently come to counseling because; they have lost their job, are struggling with a relationship, divorce, death of a loved one, move to a new town, physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, gambling, and substance abuse, just to name a few.

What are the benefits of counseling?

The benefits vary from individual to individual but some of the benefits include:

  • Reduced anxiety.
  • Decreased depression.
  • Increased optimism.
  • Improved confidence, and self-worth.
  • Increased hope.
  • Emotional and physical healing.
  • Healthier and more rewarding relationships.
  • Improved quality of life.
  • Personal insight.

What should I expect from the counseling experience?

The counseling relationship usually starts with the client coming to counseling to discuss an issue or issues in their lives that they may be struggling with. Depending on the issue or issues that are presented, counseling can be short-term, just a few sessions, or longer term if the presenting issue is more complicated. Counseling is a collaborative and interactive process between the client and counselor. A few of the broad goals of infertility and high risk counseling would be understanding, the reduction of stress, and increased hope in ones life.

Is what is discussed between me and my counselor confidential?

In general, the law does protect the confidentiality of all communication between the client and counselor. Information can not be disclosed without written consent of the client. There are however, 3 specific exceptions to confidentiality, where I, as a counselor, are required to report and these exceptions are:

  • Suspected child or elder abuse. I am required by law to report this to the authorities immediately.
  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. I must notify the police and the intended victim.
  • If a client intends to harm him or herself. I will make every effort to enlist the clients’ cooperation in insuring the clients’ safety. If the client does not cooperate, additional measures will be taken without the clients’ permission and without further notice to ensure their safety.
